INTRODUCTION: Asthma is a chronic, inflammatory respiratory disease of the lower airways. Although it has an established treatment, it is still a cause of death in all regions of Brazil. OBJECTIVE: To describe the asthma mortality rate in Brazil between 2018 and 2022, citing the regions and years with the highest number of deaths. METHODS: This is an ecological, observational, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. This evaluated mortality from asthma cases in Brazil, covering the period from 2018 to 2022. Data from “Vital Statistics” are included in the research in the item “Mortality - since 1996 by ICD-10”, with a filter on the session record “ General Mortality”. The information was extracted from the database of the Information Technology Department of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The results described in this study favor the understanding of how asthma mortality acts specifically in each Brazilian region. The highest mortality rate was recorded in 2022, while in 2018, the lowest number of deaths was noted. As for the regions, the South is the region with the highest number of deaths, and the region with the lowest mortality rate was the North of Brazil. CONCLUSION: As the causes of mortality from asthma are diverse, such as socioeconomic and/or environmental conditions, it is extremely important to identify where these situations occur most frequently, in order to institute prevention and control measures, generating a lower number of deaths due to asthma. disease that has an effective treatment.
