The Brazilian prison system is a constant challenge for the authorities and society. With a large prison population and precarious conditions for re-socialisation, there is an urgent need to rethink the way in which prisoners are reintegrated into society. The aim of this article is to analyse the challenges faced in the resocialisation process and present alternatives that can contribute to more effective reintegration. The methodology used is a bibliographical review, based on articles and books on the subject. The results obtained point to the lack of investment in resocialisation programmes, overcrowding and the lack of structure in prisons as factors that hinder the reintegration of prisoners. As an alternative, it is proposed to strengthen resocialisation measures such as education, work and psychological support. The conclusion is that resocialisation is a complex process that should not be disregarded by the state and society. It is essential that more effective measures are taken to ensure that prisoners are reintegrated into society in a dignified manner and with the prospect of positive changes in their lives.
