The social isolation imposed by the pandemic has reinforced the role of women as primary caregivers in the home, increasing the burden of domestic work and the risk of gender-based violence. Through a narrative literature review, the article discusses the implications of measures and changes instituted by the Covid-19 pandemic for the female population. The study highlights how social isolation has exacerbated social inequalities, especially for women in vulnerable situations, such as those working in the informal sector and domestic care. The increase in domestic violence during the pandemic is identified as a significant concern, emphasizing the importance of gender-sensitive public policies and support for women experiencing violence. In light of this scenario, the article concludes by calling attention to the need for a gender-sensitive approach in the formulation of health and social assistance policies, as well as emphasizing the importance of questioning the socio-cultural relationships that perpetuate violence against women.
