The present study is a descriptive-exploratory research, of the integrative literature review type, with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out from October to November 2023, in databases available on the internet: Scielo (Scientific Librany Electronic Online) and Google Scholar, as well as in national and international literature. The nature of the problem studied are complications due to infections acquired in the surgical center related to surgeries in general and the necessary care to prevent such events from happening, as well as showing the importance of the healthcare team and how essential control measures are. During this research, the aim was to identify reasons why infections occur and what are the best ways to prevent patients/clients from acquiring another disease related to surgical site infection. The most prevalent risk factors related to surgical site infection were: preoperative hospital stay longer than 24 hours; surgery duration, in hours; potential for contamination of the surgical wound classified as potentially contaminated, contaminated and infected; integrity and sterilization of surgical materials in the operating field. Therefore, it can be concluded that to prevent tracking and diagnosing the risk factors for infections related to surgery, in a general context, requires strict monitoring by the team, especially the nurse who carries out strategies aimed at monitoring care and traceability. will be favoring a risk classification prevention and intervention plan together with the entire team within the risk stratification model to significantly improve the rates of infections occurring within the surgical center.
