NURSE'S ROLE IN PRENATAL CARE IN THE SOUTH SURROUNDINGS OF BRASÍLIA-DF, CIDADE OCIDENTAL-GO

The objective of this is to identify in practice how prenatal care is carried out by professional nurses in Primary Care. The aim is to highlight the care provided by nurses during prenatal care in the Family Health Strategy. Research was carried out and, after analysis, it was demonstrated that prenatal care is characterized as a set of care and actions aimed at the gestational period, with a view to the development of pregnancy and healthy birth. It was also found that nurses provide quality care and seek professional qualifications and scientific technical knowledge to act safely in caring for pregnant women. Objective: To describe and highlight the importance of welcoming pregnant women and their families in Basic Health Units, in order to identify maternal and fetal risks during the gestational period of pregnancy and provide guidance regarding the physical and emotional changes that occur during this period. Results and discussion: The data collected were distributed across three thematic axes: continuing education as a tool to reduce errors; historical context and Datasus data on prenatal care in Cidade Oeste – GO. The main points highlighted were the focus on assistance, continuing education and nursing supervision. Highlighting the importance of constant evaluation of the procedures and activities carried out by nursing professionals in prenatal care, allowing possible flaws to be identified and corrected, ensuring the quality of the service provided. Final considerations: Prenatal care should promote a healthy and peaceful pregnancy and preparation for respectful and safe labor, delivery and birth, in line with the physiology of the process of gestation, birth, birth and breastfeeding , making women aware of their rights and making them understand what will/could happen to them, which will make them capable of making decisions based on informed choices based on the principles of autonomy and maternal empowerment. Primary care nurses are strong allies when actions and efforts need to be implemented with a view to breaking with a biomedical care model focused on exams and medications.
