Abstract

The Health in Schools Program (PSE), designed and implemented by the Ministry of Education (MEC) in 2004, was created to promote links between education and health in schools. Thus, experience in the Health in Schools Program is of fundamental importance, as it enables the Dental Surgeon to carry out not only clinical interventions, but also to disseminate knowledge about health promotion and education actions. The aim of this study was to report on the experiences of a health promotion and education activity in the PSE, carried out in a public school in the municipal education network of a town in the Sertão region of Paraíba. This study consists of an experience report on the health promotion and education activities carried out in the School Health Program (PSE) during the execution of the curricular component Supervised Internship in Extra-Muros Clinic at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). These activities took place on July 27, 2023, at the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Municipal School, located in Bairro da Saudade, in the municipality of Princesa Isabel-PB. Health promotion and education activities were carried out using macromodels and active methodologies, with the aim of encouraging general and oral health care for elementary school students and their parents/guardians. Thus, the health promotion and education activities developed in the Health at School Program contributed to a more humanistic health education that integrates the teaching-health-service-community axis, as well as offering the opportunity to recognize the health service as a whole, to have a first contact with a multi-professional team and to form a perspective that is closer to reality.
