Abstract

Disciplined by article 131 and following of Law 8.069/1990 (Child and Adolescent Statute), the Guardianship Council is an autonomous body responsible for the fulfillment of the rights of children and adolescents. In this area, the research presented here seeks to understand the role of this body and its performance within a protection system for infants. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted on the subject, based on legal norms and academic papers, as well as, whenever available, statistical data that show the performance of the Guardianship Councils.
