Abstract

Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents an important global burden of neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by progressive deterioration of cognitive function and impairment of daily activities. Despite advances in understanding the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of AD, currently available therapeutic options have demonstrated limited efficacy in slowing disease progression or improving symptoms. In this context, emerging therapies emerge as a promising perspective for a more effective and personalized approach to the treatment of AD. This study reviews the most recent emerging therapies in AD, including approaches targeting β-amyloid and tau clearance, modulation of neuroinflammation, and precision medicine. Preliminary clinical trial results suggest modest benefits in reducing disease progression with some of these therapies, but significant challenges remain, including issues related to safety, selection of relevant clinical endpoints, and effective clinical implementation. Precision medicine emerges as a promising tool for identifying subgroups of patients based on specific biomarkers, enabling a more personalized approach to treatment. Collaboration between researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and patients is essential to overcome these challenges and advance the development of more effective and personalized therapies for AD.
