Abstract

The present study addresses how the evolution of the civil name as a right of personality and the principle of the dignity of the human person takes place. The article aims to analyze the recent legislative change promoted by Law No. 14,382/2022, which allows the change of first and last name of the person over 18 years of age, regardless of the reason; investigating the benefits provided such a change. To enable this analysis, the method used was the deductive, the bibliographic research, having as source of search the law, doctrine and jurisprudence of the related courts. It is concluded that the process of changing the first name in Brazil was long and complex, which made it difficult and bureaucratic to obtain the right to the desired identity and with the validity of Law 14.382/2022, the change of first name became more accessible and respectful for all.
