Acne vulgaris in adolescents is a prevalent skin condition that, in addition to causing aesthetic discomfort, can significantly impact quality of life. The influence of sex hormones in this scenario is widely recognized, once the sebaceous glands, the primary pathogen of acne, are sensitive to hormonal variations. This study explores the pathophysiology of acne in adolescents, focusing on the influence of two sex hormones, providing an in-depth dermatological analysis. Objective: To analyze recent studies, published in the last 10 years, that investigate the influence of sex hormones on the physiopathology of acne vulgaris in adolescents. We seek to synthesize scientific evidence that contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between sexual hormones and acne therapy in this population group. Methodology: The methodology followed the PRISMA guidelines, using the databases PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science. Foram used five descriptors: "acne vulgaris", "adolescents", "sexual hormones", "physiopathology" and "therapeutics". Criteria include studies published in the last 10 years, focusing on the relationship between sex hormones and acne in adolescents. Duplicate studies not related to the topic and those with inadequate methodology are excluded. Results: The results reveal a substantial association between sexual hormones and the pathogenesis of acne in adolescents. Studies indicate that alterations in hormonal levels, particularly androgens, play a crucial role in the development and aggravation of acne. Various therapeutic approaches were discussed, highlighting the importance of interventions directed at sexual hormones to optimize treatment. Conclusion: This systematic review consolidated recent scientific evidence on the influence of sex hormones on the physiopathology and therapy of acne vulgaris in adolescents. Understanding this interaction is essential for the development of more effective and personalized therapeutic approaches, improving the clinical management of common dermatological conditions during adolescence.
