It is known that diabetes mellitus in its chronic stages manifests itself with vascular and neuropathic problems. This is extremely worrying, as the relationship with cardiovascular diseases is significant and these are the main causes of death in Brazil. In addition to the worst problem of death, many patients can live with disabling consequences for the rest of their lives, causing harm to society as a whole. Therefore, this narrative literature review brought together articles from the main databases in order to point out the main prevention measures for patients who develop diabetic foot conditions. It was concluded that diabetic foot is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus. Due to the loss of sensitivity, you need to pay a lot of attention when washing your feet and choosing the right shoes. Therefore, all patients with this condition must be properly instructed, as there is a great possibility of new injuries or worsening existing ones.
