Objectives: Determine the prevalence of complicated pneumonia. Materials and methods: This is a report of a series of cases of complicated pneumonia occurring in children at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Passos. Results: 196 records of pneumonia requiring hospitalization were found in the period analyzed, of which 27 (13%) children had complications and were the subject of this study. Of the selected cases, all required ICU admission, with 20 patients (74%) using mechanical ventilation for an average of 4 days. All the patients required oxygen therapy at some point during their stay, with an average of 9 days of use in total. All patients used broad-spectrum antibiotics for at least 21 days. 21 patients (77.7%) required chest drainage, 9 patients (33.3%) required pulmonary decortication and 6 patients (22.2%) used intrapleural fibrinolytics. There was no significant discrepancy between the sexes, with 15 girls (55.5%) and 12 boys (44.44%). The average age was 2.7 years. There were no deaths. Conclusion: There was a significant increase in hospitalizations for pneumonia in the immediate post-pandemic period and in complications requiring invasive interventions.
