Abstract

This article aims to contribute to the understanding of some public facilities that promote the human rights of women in São Luís. It is worth mentioning that this article is the product of a bibliographical and empirical research done by the authors. In this sense, we will make a brief historical context of Human Rights, entering into the Social Work debate. Next, we will seek to build on Human Rights in Maranhão. And finally, some considerations arise about the social worker's role in the fight against violence experienced by women. It is worth mentioning that professional practice focuses on freedom, ethical-political direction, autonomy of the subject, having a democratic stance, linked to Human Rights.
