PMMA is a polymer of synthetic microspheres used for injectable fillers for aesthetic purposes. Due to its low price and easy access, its demand has been growing, however, several authors mention harm caused by this substance. The aim of this study is to identify morbidity in people who used PMMA for aesthetic purposes. This is an integrative literature review that used the databases National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE) PUBMED, Scientific Electronic Library (SCIELO), EMBASE, WEB OF SCIENCE and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). Of the 4383 articles found, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles were considered eligible for this article. The main morbidities found were nodules, granulomatous reactions and edema. Therefore, it was observed that PMMA is not a recommended substance for aesthetic procedures, and it is up to the professional to inform the patient about the possible complications caused by this substance. Scientific work on this topic is considered to have a low level of evidence, therefore better-quality studies are needed to carefully identify the morbidities caused by PMMA and their occurrence in the population.
