NTRODUCTION: This work aims to review the literature, therapeutic options for the treatment of complications due to peripheral neuropathy of the lower limbs in patients with diabetes mellitus and the nursing care provided in the face of this chronic complication, which significantly affects the quality of life of their carrier, which can lead to disabilities. OBJECTIVE: To identify the nursing care provided to patients with peripheral neuropathy of the lower limbs described in Brazilian scientific literature. METHOD: An integrated bibliographical research on the subject was carried out, of a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative nature, using scientific publications organized in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Libery Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature (LILACS), consultations of books like BRUNNER&SUDDARTH in its latest update. The articles were chosen after reading and summarizing and/or parts thereof, related to the theme proposed for publication, from 2004 to 2014.
