This article focuses on the analysis of the progression of legal and social aspects of same-sex adoption in Brazil, emphasizing changes in family perception and legal advancements that recognize the rights of same-sex couples. Initially, it explores the historical evolution of the concept of family, with a focus on the 1988 Federal Constitution as a milestone in the contemporary defense of the diversity of existing family arrangements. Secondly, it seeks to position the theme within trends and jurisprudential patterns that consolidate the understanding of same-sex families as units of affection, independent of sexual orientation. Finally, the principles of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA) supporting same-sex adoption are investigated. The research adopts a study of normative, doctrinal, and jurisprudential aspects, using both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
