Abstract

The text highlights the history and importance of vaccines in Brazil, mentioning the National Immunization Program (PNI) founded in 1973, which had a positive impact on combating diseases. He also mentions the significant eradication of measles following the introduction of vaccines, which previously killed around 2.6 million people a year. The text mentions the creation of the National Immunization Days (DNI) project to combat polio, including the use of the Oral Antipolio vaccine (VOA). Furthermore, the text emphasizes the importance of the pharmacist in the area of vaccination, even though he is the last professional to have contact with the patient before treatment. Pharmacists play a fundamental role in improving access to vaccines and promoting public health. The text suggests that in other countries, vaccination habits are more developed, which makes the pharmacist a crucial health agent to increase vaccination coverage and reduce mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases.
