CONTRIBUTIONS TO PATIENT SAFETY MANAGEMENT IN URGENT AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS - INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

The growing demand for emergency services in recent years, associated with the insufficient network structuring, have been factors which have decisively contributed to the overload of these services. Therefore, potentially compromising patient safety. Thus, this study has aimed to analyze scientific productions that can contribute to the management of care, with its focus on patient safety in emergency situations. It was an integrative literature review using the Virtual Health Library (BVS) database in May 2023. The results found in this study highlighted the following themes: "errors and safe actions related to medication prescription, preparation, and administration" (4); "effective communication for patient safety" (4); "factors which contribute to adverse events" (2); "nurses' perception of patient safety" (2); "strategies aimed at patient safety" (2); "general topics on patient safety" (1); "safe patient identification" (1); "Patient Safety Culture" (2); and "Patient Safety Core (PSC)" (1). In conclusion, it is of paramount importance to understand the risks affecting patient safety in emergency units to implement measures that can improve safety management in healthcare institutions.
