Abstract

The protection of domestic animals in the legal system is a topic of increasing relevance, reflecting society's commitment to ensuring the well-being of these beings. The main objective of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of existing laws and regulations in Brazil for the protection of these domestic animals, evaluating their impact on the prevention of abuse and mistreatment. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive research was conducted, which includes analysis of current legislation and case studies. Furthermore, the ethical and social implications of protecting domestic animals were examined. The results obtained reveal that although Brazil has specific laws for the protection of animals, their application and effectiveness vary across the country. Supervision is often insufficient, leading to frequent cases of abuse and neglect. Furthermore, public awareness of domestic animal rights is still limited, contributing to the perpetuation of problems. Based on the above, it is concluded that it is essential to improve existing legislation and strengthen inspection mechanisms. Furthermore, education and awareness in society play a fundamental role. It is imperative that legislators, authorities and civil society work together to ensure a safer and more compassionate environment for domestic animals in Brazil.
