FORENSIC DENTISTRY: ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE FORENSIC DENTIST IN POST-MORTEM HUMAN IDENTIFICATION EXPERIENCES¹

Forensic dentistry is a resource in postmortem situations of multiple victims, and identification of bodies where visual identification or other traditional means cannot be performed. The present work whose problematic is based on: Is forensic dental expertise really important in cases focused on human identification? The general objective of the study is to highlight the importance of the role of the forensic dentist in human identification examinations, through a thorough literature review. The specific objectives are: to explain that in many cases, the only materials capable of analysis for human identification are teeth, the importance of ante-mortem or post-mortem documents and to understand that forensic dentistry encompasses administrative, criminal and civilians to human identification before and after death. The study in question was carried out through bibliographical and documentary research of a descriptive and explanatory nature, based on the databases of SciELO, PubMed, Google Scholar and scientific articles. This work seeks to ensure that the importance of Forensic Dentistry is understood and that the methods used by them are highlighted and explained in a clear and succinct way.
