Platelet-rich fibrin is a platelet aggregate that accelerates the healing and regeneration of oral tissues and is considered a promising material in bone reconstruction processes. Objective: The present work aims to highlight the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of PRF in bone growth in atrophic maxillae and mandibles. Methodology: A search was carried out in the literature on the topic, in databases such as: Google Scholar, Pubmed and Scielo. Results:The results showed positive factors for PRF, since it is an autologous biomaterial that reduces the risk of infection and accelerates the formation of new bone. Conclusion: PRF has been shown to have properties that aid bone formation, but in extensive bone defects it is necessary to associate it with some type of graft. Even so, the use of platelet-rich fibrin has advantages
