Silver amalgam restorations are unsightly and can cause discomfort to the patient. The purpose of this work was to review various research and reports regarding the Replacement of Dental Amalgam Restorations, aesthetic and functional analysis: In this way, the work to evaluate, based on a literature review, the positions and arguments. benefits and harms about the exchange of dental amalgam for composite resin, highlighting the groups that directly differ regarding this practice and reporting a protocol accepted in the literature for replacing amalgam restorations with composite resin. We can conclude that: restorative dentistry is a fundamental area, since in addition to promoting functionality and quality of life with restored teeth, it is also capable of restoring aesthetics. Metallic mercury is an effectively toxic element due to its eminent characteristics and properties and, in cases of severe poisoning, can cause serious physical and neurological consequences and even cause death. However, an objective and subjective analysis is necessary before making any decision, as well as explaining the benefits and harms to the patient. Knowing that it is necessary to use the protocol when removing it, surrounded by care aimed at greater safety for the patient and the dental team.
