Abstract

The racional use of antimicrobials in a hospital environment is one of the main challenges encountered in the treatment of infections in a hospital environment. Inadequate administration and indiscriminate use of antimicrobials results in compromising the patient's clinical response, increasing the cost of hospitalization and may contribute to the emergence of multi-resistant bacteria. Therefore, the main factors that lead to the panorama in relation to antimicrobial resistance, the main causes of inappropriate use, as well as the main strategies for the rational use of antimicrobials were addressed, in order to guarantee the best therapy and lower antimicrobial resistance. Therefore, in this context, the role of the pharmacist is fundamentally important to analyze based on the prescription, seek the best therapeutic option available and thus individualize the treatment, seeking therapeutic optimization.
