Abstract

Testosterone is an endocrine anabolic androgenic hormone, but there are synthetic anabolic steroids produced from the male hormone, testosterone. In recent decades, these substances have been used by gym-goers indiscriminately, thus leading to public health concerns due to their side effects, which are often irreversible. This work has the general objective of carrying out a systematic review on the negative consequences of the indiscriminate use of anabolic steroids. The methodology used was a bibliographic review of the literature, based on the years 2020 to 2023. It can be concluded that the body systems most affected by inappropriate use are the reproductive, hepatic, musculoskeletal, endocrine, renal, cardiovascular, dermatological and neuropsychiatric systems., in addition to interfering with user behavior.
