This study conducted a literature review on the presence of trace metals in the unsaturated zone in the cemetery soil. Most existing cemeteries were installed without thinking about the potential risks to the local environment or community. Toxic chemicals can be released into groundwater, these products include substances that were used in the embalming and varnishes, sealers and preservatives and metals in the handles of coffins and props used in wooden coffins. They were included in the review studies published in the last 30 years. The results suggest the need to monitor pollution in order to ensure that water sources around the cemeteries are not in danger due to the release of toxic heavy metals such as human remains and other materials decaying. It was concluded that higher levels of trace metals in
in cemeteries have influence with the nature of the burials, type of materials used and the local geology.
