Abstract

Technology has been transforming the various sectors of society and becoming increasingly indispensable in people's routine. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is responsible for the digital transformation that began at the turn of the 21st century. And among the technologies responsible for this transformation, artificial intelligence occupies a prominent position for its ability to imitate human intelligence. The legal sector already perceives the reflexes of the implementation of this technology in its practices and the future in relation to intelligence promises to be favorable, but it is also full of uncertainties. The present work will address the consequences of the introduction of artificial intelligence in law, its aptitude to replace the lawyer and the new paths of the profession. In the research, the deductive method was used, with a qualitative approach and in relation to the procedure, a bibliographic research was developed. It is concluded that artificial intelligence will not dispense with the role of the lawyer, but the professional who limits himself/herself to performing merely operational tasks will lose market share. It is a technology that enables benefits for offices such as the effective gain of time, improving customer relationships, reducing the risk of errors, cost reduction and team animus increase. But problems in relation to artificial intelligence are already perceived, such as the high cost of implementing and maintaining the systems, dependence on highly trained professionals for maintenance and the difficulty of innovation, which are considered less complex. This technology has stirred the class with the controversy of the extinction of the profession, also presenting moral and ethical problems, indispensably needing accurate state regulation for its correct evolution combined with human protection. For the future of the profession, the trends are for the lawyer to gather solid legal knowledge, adding to this various technological, behavioral and cognitive skills for entering and remaining in the market.
