Abstract

This paper analyzes the issue of accidents at work in the construction industry, focusing on the application of Regulatory Standard No. 18 (NR-18) and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Through a comprehensive literature review, relevant information was gathered on the main occupational risks faced by construction professionals. It was found that the sector has high accident rates, mostly caused by falls from height, cave-ins, electric shocks and exposure to intense noise. NR-18 is a crucial instrument for preventing accidents in this area. It establishes guidelines for the management of occupational risks on construction sites, ranging from the organization of the work environment to the use of PPE and the adoption of preventive measures. The proper use of PPE is another relevant aspect addressed in this analysis. PPE is essential to protect workers against specific risks, such as falls, impacts, noise and chemical agents. However, their effectiveness is directly linked to correct use and proper maintenance, which requires commitment from both companies and the professionals themselves. The final considerations indicate that reducing accidents at work in the construction industry requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving worker awareness, constant training, proactive action by companies and inspection by the competent bodies.
