Objectives: To present, through a literature review, the importance of the dentist's role during the different phases of oncological treatment in the SUS. Methodology: This is a literature review work in which the Pubmed, Scielo and Google Scholar databases were used, addressing the importance and role of the dental surgeon in the oncology area, using the keyword SUS”, “Oncology”, “Multidisciplinary”. Results: It was found that simple clinical procedures such as oral hygiene, oral biofilm control, use of specific oral antiseptics, prevent some secondary manifestations in the mouth caused by cancer treatment. Osteonecrosis of the jaws can be caused after radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy treatment and by drugs used in cancer treatment. Conclusion: It was observed that there is no compliance with some aspects of the SUS, such as resolution and integrity, which aims to meet all the needs and specialties of SUS users, thus collaborating with the increase in morbidity and mortality. Based on the federal constitution, the SUS user has the right to specialized dental care, as well as the true performance of CACON - High Complexity Assistance Centers in Oncology.
