Gestational diabetes mellitus is recognized as a public health problem, mainly due to its common occurrence during the gestational period, characterized by metabolic dysfunctions. This article consists of an integrative review, which aims to discuss the complications of gestational diabetes for postpartum newborns, through considerations about gestational diabetes, its impact on the lives of pregnant women and its risk factors. , with the aim of expanding the knowledge of students and professionals in the field on the topic in question. This is an integrative review, in which a bibliographic search was carried out in the databases. Gestational diabetes mellitus can result in several complications for the newborn after birth. These complications are directly related to the mother's high blood glucose levels during pregnancy, affecting the baby in different ways. One of the most common complications is fetal macrosomia. In short, it is possible to conclude that gestational diabetes mellitus can result in significant complications for the newborn postpartum, including fetal macrosomia, neonatal hypoglycemia, respiratory problems and others.
