Domestic violence against women is a sad reality that affects millions of women around the world, constituting a violation of fundamental human rights. Understanding and seeking to understand violence against women requires an analysis that takes into account the diversity of structural, historical and conjunctural aspects that surround it. Thus, this research aims to contribute to the understanding of domestic violence against women, from the perspective of psychology, offering privileges for the development of more effective public policies, as well as for improving the professional practices of psychologists and other professionals who work with this delicate and relevant theme. It is concluded that Psychology as a field of science and profession can act significantly in deconstructing social and gender inequalities, preventing simplistic interpretations, as recognizing all the implications of this fact is necessary to help women prevent or overcome violence, in addition to encouraging her to redirect new life goals.
