Asthma is a heterogeneous lung disease characterized by variable airflow obstruction and airway hyperresponsiveness, leading to episodic and reversible bronchoconstriction. The objective was to analyze the impact of obesity on the clinical outcomes of asthmatic patients treated at a teaching hospital in western Paraná. Retrospective study of qualitative and quantitative analysis, carried out from July to September 2023, with evaluation of the medical records of patients with asthma attacks. After ethical approval (CAAE nº 70136723.4.0000.5219), data were collected from 192 patients, 73 with eutrophic characteristics and 119 with obesity. Sociodemographically, it was seen that 163 (85%) of the population had white skin and 29 (15%) had brown skin, 78 (41%) were treated privately and 114 (59%) through health insurance. A significant difference was found regarding the presence of comorbidities and the number of medications taken continuously, in which obese patients had a higher average. Correspondingly, this group was also hospitalized more often and remained statistically longer in the unit. Normal weight women had more favorable outcomes when compared to obese women or men, who were hospitalized more frequently. There was an increasing percentage in the number of hospitalizations as the presence of comorbidities increased. According to the distribution of the body mass index, a significant difference was observed, in which the lower this indicator, the lower the hospitalization rate.
