THE SUBJECT BEYOND THE DISEASE: THE PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH TO PSYCHOSOMATIC DISEASES

A growing number of individuals are seeking psychological care with complaints of physical symptoms, such as headache, dizziness, fainting, tachycardia, and dermatological reactions. In most cases, it is observed that these individuals were evaluated by doctors and clinical examinations, which, in turn, failed to identify the problem and, consequently, were referred to a psychologist to investigate the possibility of psychological distress with physical implications. Given this, knowing the causes, methods, and care psychology offers in caring for these subjects is essential. Considering these issues, the context article aims, through bibliographical research of na exploratory nature, to identify how psychological illness occurs, causing physiological symptoms, what the studies and scientific evidence on the subject, and how the Centered Approach Pessoa applies his theory in this context.
