O The present research aims to present an updated review on the role of the nurse as a facilitator in the breastfeeding process as a consultant. Thus, it is an integrative bibliographic review supported by magazines, articles, theses, manuals and protocols in the online databases Google Scholar, Scielo, Scopus. It drew on authors such as: Lamounier (2000); Bandinter (2002); Arante (1995) Almeida (2015), among others. The results showed that the role of nurses as consultants in the breastfeeding process is still little discussed and deserves more attention and space to raise awareness among mothers during the breastfeeding period. It is understood that this breastfeeding process is fundamental for both the mother and the baby. Through the studies and surveys carried out here, it was concluded that the benefits proposed by nursing consultancy in breastfeeding show positive impacts on the quality of breastfeeding, encouraging the importance of direct contact between the baby and the breastfeeding mother in this lactation process. Reducing the incidence of early weaning, since during breastfeeding practice and consultancy, mothers are guided by professionals qualified for this role.
