Abstract

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is characterized by damage to the brain caused by external physical forces. In Brazil, it is estimated that more than one million people live with irreversible neurological consequences due to TBI. This trauma involves complex mechanisms and elicits different responses depending on its origin. It is a public health problem with a high socioeconomic impact, since the medical costs of its treatment are extremely high. The objective of this study is to determine the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with TBI, through the analysis of data from the Department of Information Technology of the Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS), in order to obtain information for the development of strategies to prevent and control the costs of this pathology.
