Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a retinal degenerative disease subdivided into two categories: wet and dry. Wet-type AMD is one of the main causes of irreversible vision loss in elderly people, making it an excellent source of study. Of undefined etiology, AMD has a complex pathophysiology where several studies point to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as the main responsible for the pathogenesis of the disease. Anti-angioenic drugs have become an important target of treatment for exudative AMD. Based on a retrospective survey of medical records of patients with sub-retinal neovascular membranes in age-related macular degeneration treated in a private clinic in the city of Cascavel/PR, we aim to evaluate the clinical evolution and results of the visual acuity of the patients after therapy with aflibercept (anti-VEGF).
