Abstract

Foreign body aspiration is an accident with a high incidence in pediatrics and is associated with a high mortality rate, especially in children under 3 years of age. Despite being preventable, these cases continue to be reported every year. When a foreign body is aspired and becomes lodged in the bronchial tree, the patient presents with coughing, wheezing (usually unilateral), decreased respiratory sounds and dyspnea of varying intensity. Thus, in this study a questionnaire was applied to a lay population, more specifically from a pedagogy and literature course at a university in western Paraná – which will work directly with this public – in order to assess their knowledge about this pathology. and its management.
