HOSPITALIZATION, MORTALITY AND TOTAL AMOUNTS SPENT FOR MENTAL DISORDERS IN BRAZIL: AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THE LAST 10 YEARS

Abstract

Mental disorders are considered the disease of the century, due to the intense globalization suffered in recent times, which cause great deficits in the quality of life of its bearers, but the studies on its social, cultural and economic aspects do not meet the real needs, due to be an emerging problem. Aiming to involve the area, an epidemiological analysis of hospitalizations, mortality and total spending, for mental disorders in the last decade, from March 2011 to March 2021, through research by the Hospital Information System / Unified Health System (SIH / SUS) - DATASUS, evaluating hospitalizations, deaths and total values, by national region, mortality rate, year, age group and gender. Observing the data obtained, 2,299,606 hospitalizations and total spending of R$3,624,554,290.15 were registered with mental disorders in the observed decade, having, in both, higher numbers in the southeast region and lower numbers in the north region. In addition, the deaths generated are present in the adult population with greater exponent. Through these facts, important questions are raised, making it possible to obtain probable answers for the negative phenomena in the mental health of Brazilians; developments, which will provide data that can help a better functioning of public health services, so that perhaps there is a change in the current scenario.
