THE IMPORTANCE OF EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF A CHILD’S LIFE

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding continues to be an action considered to promote food safety, there are national and international recommendations, breastfeeding has a protective effect due to the components of milk, immunological factors and bioactives that are present in maternal colostrum. Objective: To demonstrate the importance of breastfeeding until the child's sixth month of life, in addition to identifying the reasons for weaning and pointing out the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: Research was carried out on official platforms such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs) and Virtual Health Library (BVS) of the Ministry of Health, including journals in banks of national and international data, published between the years 2017 to 2023, exclusive journals published before 2017 and that deviated from the theme and proposed objective, a total of 30 publications were received, of which 15 fit the search, Boolean operators AND, OR and were NOT used to assist in the research carried out. Result: It presents the main selected publications determined from the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for six months of life, to advantages about exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: The need for greater care in informing about the importance of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding up to six months of the child's life.
