Abstract

This scientific article aimed to investigate the relationship between orthopedic doctors and physiotherapists in the care of orthopedic patients, through a systematic review of the literature. 35 studies that address this collaboration were analyzed, encompassing original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses and case studies, published until September 2021. The results highlight a series of benefits associated with interprofessional collaboration, including improvement in the quality of care, acceleration recovery, reduced complications and increased patient satisfaction. However, challenges such as ineffective communication and differences in clinical approach were also identified. Strategies to enhance collaboration, such as clear communication, interprofessional education, and team integration, were discussed. In conclusion, this study reinforces the importance of collaboration between physicians and physical therapists in orthopedic care and highlights the need to address challenges to optimize clinical outcomes and quality of life for orthopedic patients.
