THE JARI PROJECT, BETWEEN UTOPIAS AND REALITIES: PRECARIOUS SETTLEMENTS IN LARANJAL DO JARI-AP

Abstract

The main objective of this work was to analyze the precarious settlements in Laranjal do Jari, its genesis since the formation of the Jari Project in 1967 until the current configuration, in view of the most diverse crises that the Project has had over time, more precisely between 2008-2023. To carry out the reseach a bibliographical survey ande field work were carried out in the city of Laranjal do Jari -AP and in the disctrit of Monte Dourado-PA. The results achieved point of the slowdown of the local economy in Vale do Jari a fact that can be noticed by the more than 1000 employees who were dismissed from the companies Jari Celulose /SA Cadam/SA and other outsourced companies bringing direct impacts on the intensifictaion of houses on stilts in the urban área of Laranjal do Jari. Still the role of municipal and state management is analyzed with regard to public polices aimed at improving the urban structure of the city.
