PATHOLOGIES AND TREATMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF COMPLETE REMOVABLE DENTURES: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Objective: to identify in the scientific literature the characteristics of the most common pathologies, treatments and alterations linked to the use of complete removable dentures in adult and elderly patients, since they facilitate oral diseases and oral lesions with different levels of severity. Method: integrative review, whose eligibility criteria for the articles were: corresponding to the descriptors “Prostheses”; “Oral pathology” and “Oral rehabilitation”, be a research article; be in Portuguese and English; be electronically available in the VHL databases (Virtual Health Library) and the Scientific Electronic Library onLine (SciELO) data sources and year of publication referring to the period from 2013 to 2023. Results: 10 significant publications were found. The analysis took place through analytical and interpretive readings. The importance of educational interventions, innovations, treatments in order to minimize the negative impacts arising from tooth loss as well as the unavoidable maintenance of dental prostheses, affecting the quality of life. Final considerations: Complete dentures were highlighted as positive indications for completely edentulous patients who are affected by their essential oral functions.
