MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF RADIOTHERAPY-INDUCED ORAL MUCOSITIS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

Objective: to identify in the scientific literature the general characteristics and mention the effects of Oral Mucositis (OM) linked under the multidisciplinary approach to therapy against oral cancer, analyzing the development and its severity. Method: integrative review, whose eligibility criteria for the articles were: corresponding to the descriptors: “Oral mucositis”, “Oral cavity” and “Cancêr”, being a research article; be in Portuguese and English; be electronically available in the VHL databases (Virtual Health Library) and the Scientific Electronic Library onLine (SciELO) data sources and year of publication referring to the period from 2013 to 2023. Results: 10 significant publications were found. The analysis took place through analytical and interpretive readings. The importance of educational interventions, innovations and treatments, in order to minimize the negative impacts arising from oral mucositis that affect the quality of life in human beings. Final considerations: Radiotherapy treatments were highlighted as positive indications for patients affected by OM.
