Cannabinoids, compounds derived from the cannabis plant, have been the subject of growing interest due to their therapeutic potential in neurological diseases. This article explores recent findings on the use of cannabinoids as a treatment for neurological conditions, examining their neuroprotective properties, effects on neuroinflammation, neuropathic pain relief, and possible applications in neuropsychiatric disorders. Evidence suggests that cannabinoids may play a significant role in modulating neuroinflammation, reducing harmful inflammatory responses that are implicated in neurological disease. In addition, they have shown neuroprotective potential, promoting the survival and health of neural cells in stressful situations. This paves the way for possible applications in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The ability of cannabinoids to alleviate neuropathic pain is another hot spot, offering a potential alternative to conventional treatments. Studies have shown that cannabinoids such as CBD can interact with pain signaling pathways, providing relief to patients suffering from chronic pain. Additionally, research suggests that cannabinoids may have benefits in treating neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression. The interaction of cannabinoids with neurotransmission systems can contribute to the balance of brain functions, positively influencing the mental state of patients. While the findings are promising, it is important to note that research on cannabinoids in neurological diseases is ongoing and many aspects remain to be elucidated. Ethical, regulatory and safety considerations must also be carefully evaluated as cannabinoids become a more widely explored therapeutic option. In summary, this article presents a comprehensive overview of the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids in neurological diseases. While more research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms of action and clinical benefits, cannabinoids are emerging as an exciting area of study that may offer hope and new therapeutic options for patients with neurological diseases.
