This is an integrative review that aims to address the use of ultrasound in parendodontic surgery. The articles were collected in the databases Google Scholar, PubMed and Lilacs, without limitation of time and languages, applying the methods of Advanced and Manual Search. A total of 27 articles were selected, since they contemplate the theme to be addressed. From the analysis of the articles, it was observed that ultrasound has great applicability in apical surgery, since it promotes a lower osteotomy, reduces unnecessary wear of healthy structures, provides a lower exposure of dentinal tubules in apicectomy and provides a smaller amount of smear layer in the backpreparation. For the use of ultrasound to be effective, it is important that the dentist has knowledge about the surgical technique, has skill and clinical experience of its use, and knows the different ultrasonic inserts for the anatomy of the root canal of each tooth.
