HEALTH OUTCOMES RESULTING FROM CARDIAC REHABILITATION IN THE PERSON AFTER ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a major public health problem due to its high morbidity and mortality rate. The aim of this study is to find out if the practice of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in a person after AMI can be beneficial to their health. Methodology: Literature review, involving the scientific databases CINAHL Complete, MedicLatina, Medline Complete, Cochrane, through the EBSCOhost platform, including scientific articles published between January 2015 and July 2023. After this selection, five articles were included in the review, according to PRISMA guidelines. Results: All selected articles ahowed health gains, including an improvement in quality of life, functional capacity, psychological status and an reduced complication rates. Conclusion: CR in patients after AMI is safe, essential and beneficial for their recovery, providing important evidence to encourage patients after AMI to join CR programmes as early as possible.
