ORAL MUCOSITIS IN BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT PATIENTS

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a therapeutic alternative widely used in patients with diseases of the hematopoietic system, which can improve quality of life or even cure the disease. However, this procedure entails several oral alterations as a side effect such as: xerostomia (dry mouth sensation), taste alteration, caries, oral mucositis, fungal infection, hairy leukoplakia, herpetic infection, gingival alterations, among others. Through a literature review, the complication of oral mucositis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation (BMT), noting the extreme importance of the dental surgeon in the clinical staff in order to treat, prevent and monitor changes.
