Introduction: The elderly population, over 60 years of age, represents a growing demographic group worldwide. In 2010, there were more than 700 million elderly people in the world and this population is expected to double by 2050. In addition to chronic diseases, so common in the elderly population, sexually transmitted infections are an issue on the agenda when talking about old age. Objective: To estimate the occurrence of HIV among elderly people over 60 years of age in Brazil, between 2010 and 2020. Methodology: Cross-sectional, descriptive study, with secondary data available on the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) platform. The number of confirmed cases of HIV in the elderly population, from 2010 to 2020, was evaluated. The incidence rate and its evolution were calculated in each region of the country and the variables evaluated: race, gender, education and the exposure category criterion hierarchical. Data were studied using Microsoft Excel version 2007. Results: There were 23,656 new reported cases of HIV in people over 60 years of age. The Southeast region and the Midwest region reported the highest and lowest number of cases, respectively. Discussion: The sexuality of the elderly is subject to the same risks related to STIs as any age group. Self-care and sex education must be maintained throughout life. Old age does not mean the end of sexuality and is not an excuse to avoid taking care of your health. Conclusion: The increase in HIV cases in this specific population makes it clear that the sex life is active and therefore awareness about the use of condoms is essential to guarantee safe sex. Thus, we seek to promote aging with health security, with responsibilities shared between professionals, public policies and the elderly themselves.
