Abstract

The article focuses on exploring the relational aspect of individuals who have committed violent crimes in Brazil. It argues that secondary socialization plays a crucial role in positioning individuals within a relational space that influences their criminal trajectory. The study investigates the active elements of this space, including education, occupation, family structure, residential mobility, and criminal backgrounds. The results show that social relationships, family breakdown, and residential mobility have a significant impact on criminal behavior. The study also divides individuals into two groups based on their age and backgrounds and identifies the most common crimes committed by individuals in the upper quadrants of the relational space. The research emphasizes the relationship between socio-economic disadvantages and criminal involvement, highlighting the importance of addressing structural and socio-economic issues in the development of prevention programs. Investing in employment opportunities, education, and improving socio-economic conditions is identified as a way to reduce the chances of involvement in criminal activities.
