Abstract

Advances in radiology in the diagnosis of bone tumors have played a key role in improving accuracy, early detection and characterization of lesions. The use of radiological imaging techniques, such as radiographs, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and molecular imaging, has provided a more accurate and detailed view of bone structures and adjacent soft tissues. These advances have contributed to differentiating benign from malignant lesions, assessing soft tissue invasion and detecting metastases, helping in clinical decision-making and adequate therapeutic planning. In addition, radiology plays a key role in monitoring treatment and evaluating therapeutic response, allowing the monitoring of changes in lesions over time and identifying possible complications related to treatment. The evolution of technology, especially molecular imaging, has allowed a deeper understanding of the metabolic and functional processes associated with bone tumors. This has contributed to a more accurate and personalized diagnosis, leading to more individualized therapeutic approaches. However, it is important to emphasize that radiology should be considered as part of a multidisciplinary approach, working together with other clinical information and complementary exams, such as pathological analysis. Collaboration between radiologists, oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, and pathologists is critical for comprehensive evaluation and appropriate treatment. In summary, advances in radiology have had a significant impact on the diagnosis of bone tumors, providing better accuracy, early detection and characterization of lesions. These technologies have contributed to more effective monitoring of treatment and a more accurate assessment of therapeutic response. As radiology continues to develop, it is expected that these advances will continue to improve the diagnosis and treatment of bone tumors, benefiting patients and improving clinical outcomes.
