Abstract

Chronic kidney disease and hemodialysis treatment have repercussions that extend beyond the clinical dimension, affecting daily life, autonomy, social relationships, and quality of life. In this context, relational technologies may contribute to more comprehensive and person-centered care. Objective: to analyze the relational technologies used in the care of people undergoing hemodialysis, considering their contributions to communication and interaction, health education and self-care, social support and quality of life, as well as autonomy and participation in therapeutic decisions. Method: an integrative literature review was conducted, including 14 studies published between 2022 and 2025, selected according to previously established criteria. The studies were analyzed regarding methodological characteristics, investigated populations, and their main contributions to relational care. Results: the findings were organized into four dimensions: communication and interaction among patients, family members, and professionals; health education, health literacy, and the use of technologies for self-care; social support, spirituality, and quality of life; and subjective aspects of illness, including stigma, autonomy, and participation in therapeutic decisions. Overall, the studies showed that communication, educational, and technological strategies may promote self-care, self-management, and participation in treatment, while social support, spirituality, and trusting relationships contribute to coping and quality of life. Conclusion: relational technologies are relevant resources for improving hemodialysis care, particularly when integrated with person-centered practices, effective communication, and recognition of individual needs.
